FAQs
What are the maximum frames (or pictures) per second (pps or fps) the POM system can record?
Up to 480 frames per second.

How long will the POM record for?
On average per 120 GB ( the POM may have up to 2 TB ), the standard POM will record for 19 days (16 cameras, motion detection, 5 fps per camera, 360x240 resolution). Since this record time can vary from one day to well over a month, it is important to know what effect recording time will have on the POM digital recorder. By configuring the frames per second for each camera and the recording settings properly, you will get the appropriate amount of recording days for your needs.

Can I view and store the video remotely?
Yes. The POM system comes network ready via its built-in 10/100 base network adapter. With this interface, both live and recorded images can be remotely viewed when connected to a LAN, WAN or the Internet. This system can also archive images and video to any remote PC or network attached storage device (NAS).

What software do I need to view video remotely?
The software is provided to you when you purchase the POM system plus is available to download on www.pom-tec.com. Additionally, the software is compatible with any Microsoft operating system released in the last five years.

Can I set the POM system to record upon detecting motion or alarm activity?
Yes. The POM system allows you to set up to 5 motion regions per camera for motion activity recording and allows you to associate any of 16 alarm inputs to one or more cameras. When utilized effectively, this greatly increases the storage capacity of the unit.

During the alarm activity can I program the POM system to record at a higher resolution?
Yes. The system can automatically increase resolution and image quality on the alarm channel to highest settings possible.

What compression to you use?
The POM system uses an M-peg compression algorithm that maximizes the image quality and reduces the image size for maximum storage.

What formats are the exported video/images in?
Image and video can be exported into 3 different formats:
  1. Proprietary format - extracts video from all 16 cameras into a file. This format can only be read by the POM back-up viewing software.
  2. AVI - This is the industry standard video format that can be read on the majority of PC’s today. The file size can be small making it ideal to be sent via email.
  3. JPG - This is a single image format (like a photograph). The file size is small which makes it ideal to send via email.

Can I control my pan, zoom and tilt camera from the POM unit?
Yes. The POM system comes pre-configured to support all the major PTZ camera manufacturers. You can create tours, presets, can control camera speed.

How secure is the POM system?
The POM unit was built from the ground up as a secure solution. It runs on Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional, and utilizes all the security features Windows offers. In addition, all functions such as crt-alt-del and the Windows keys are disabled. If power is cut to the POM unit the system will automatically reboot and begin recording.

Can I create user accounts with special privileges?
The system incorporates a multi-user level access system. Administrators can create users, assign them privileges (such as searching and shutting down) and even deny them the right to view specific cameras.
